paris under snow

My friend Ines just sent me these beautiful photos of Paris in the snow. I hope she doesn't mind me posting them here! She is one of my favorite photographers, and lots of my paintings have been inspired by her images. You can see her work on her flickr page.

I think Kai and I will be visiting Paris for his upcoming show in the end of May or beginning of June!

Ooh, and in other random news (exciting for Bored to Death fans). Kai just emailed me this.

another new painting

Just finished another new 8 x 10, titled "Flower Child," available here.

allison watkins!

My mom sent me a link to this interview with the San Francisco based artist Allison Watkins earlier this week. I love the colors, textures, and everything else about these inspiring, life sized closest study embroideries.  (images from the artist's website)

studio inspiration

Things have been a bit frustrating in the studio, and aside from working on a fun commission, I'm having a hard time finishing anything. So I've been doing a lot of looking, mess making, cleaning and more mess making, and starting paintings I will probably never finish. Fingers crossed this week will be more productive.

Oh, and I started an Istagram account, (user name clareelsaesser).

new painting

It's December already?!?! Is anyone else feeling like time is moving at light speed? Here is my most recent painting,  In the Garden. I was able to finish it last night, right before driving into town (an hour each way) to order business cards and postcards in the Starbucks parking lot, because our satellite internet doesn't cut it. We got tea too...I wouldn't think about stealing internet from Starbucks (well, I did think about it, but it was cold and tea sounded good).

monday melancholy

Happy Monday. I just finished packing up orders and before walking down to the post office, thought I'd share a few lovely Etsy items which are distracting me from my usual Monday melancholy (I had to force myself to turn off the music after listening to Elliott Smith's No Name #1 on repeat the last hour...I love that song).

kai's new website

Kai redid his website, and added a bunch of new paintings. It looks fantastic! I still haven't managed to find the time to put anything on my website, so I'm extra proud/jealous of my husband. You can see it here.

2012 Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House

I was very excited to make a painting for the 2012 Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House, commissioned by the super fantastic interior designer, Erika McPherson Powell of Urban Grace Interiors.

The painting is a second version of Watching Trees, and measures 42 x 72 inches. A big one!
The room my painting is in didn't make it into the magazine, but it was still really fun to participate, and so exciting to see these photos! You can see more photos of the house on Erika's blog.

and another one!

Resort, 12 x 16 inches, acrylic on wood panel, available here.
I finished this one yesterday evening. It was inspired by an old black and white photo I found a while back at a thrift store, of a woman in a neat swimsuit.
