new painting

It's December already?!?! Is anyone else feeling like time is moving at light speed? Here is my most recent painting,  In the Garden. I was able to finish it last night, right before driving into town (an hour each way) to order business cards and postcards in the Starbucks parking lot, because our satellite internet doesn't cut it. We got tea too...I wouldn't think about stealing internet from Starbucks (well, I did think about it, but it was cold and tea sounded good).

monday melancholy

Happy Monday. I just finished packing up orders and before walking down to the post office, thought I'd share a few lovely Etsy items which are distracting me from my usual Monday melancholy (I had to force myself to turn off the music after listening to Elliott Smith's No Name #1 on repeat the last hour...I love that song).

kai's new website

Kai redid his website, and added a bunch of new paintings. It looks fantastic! I still haven't managed to find the time to put anything on my website, so I'm extra proud/jealous of my husband. You can see it here.

2012 Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House

I was very excited to make a painting for the 2012 Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House, commissioned by the super fantastic interior designer, Erika McPherson Powell of Urban Grace Interiors.

The painting is a second version of Watching Trees, and measures 42 x 72 inches. A big one!
The room my painting is in didn't make it into the magazine, but it was still really fun to participate, and so exciting to see these photos! You can see more photos of the house on Erika's blog.

and another one!

Resort, 12 x 16 inches, acrylic on wood panel, available here.
I finished this one yesterday evening. It was inspired by an old black and white photo I found a while back at a thrift store, of a woman in a neat swimsuit.

new painting

I just finished a new painting, in the midst of commission work. I worked on this one a long time, and underneath are several totally different layers, including a girl with Medusa snake head I painted when I was really frustrated!

Above is the final incarnation titled Dreaming, 24 x 30 inches, acrylic on wood panel, available here.

baseball week

Kai went to his first and second MLB baseball game this week! Since we moved to the bay area, we have both become Giants fans, and it was so fun to see them play two of their last home games of the season. Tuesday night's game was fairly terrible, and since Kai and I are both kind of (mostly) crazy, we decided at the last minute to drive down again yesterday afternoon.

We were so glad we did! We sat in the bleachers (only $10 a ticket- we would definitely recommend this over buying normal seats) amongst drunk (we were surrounded on either side by groups of bartenders) and giddy Giants fans, and had so much fun watching our team rack up the points, while eating delicious fried chicken from Farmer Brown's Little Skillet (a really neat chicken and waffle stand only a couple blocks from AT&T park).

If we could afford post season tickets (apparently they start around one hundred and some dollars for the bleachers) we'd be there every game!

Kai pieced together the top panorama. I was smiling the whole game, but apparently not when he took this surprise photo.

My only gripe with baseball is: where is women's baseball? Did professional women's baseball only exist in the forties? Hmm...

two commissions

I have been busy with a fun group of commissions the last few months, there are still a bunch in the works, but I thought I'd share a couple finished recently. Above is a 24 x 60 inch lake scene I made for a lovely Australian couple (I'm packing it up right now to ship off). And below, a 9 x 12 inch fox couple for my sweet friend Elka's sister's wedding.

shoes and things

Works in progress.... I'm awaiting my new fancy easel I just ordered with a wedding present gift certificate from my mom's sweet friend Ellen! I'm so excited to have a proper easel soon!

These Gray Cotton Trousers by Naftul look really neat! I like the buttons.
I finally got my dream loafers from Ele. Eleonora is so sweet, and these shoes are so gorgeous. No wonder she sells out completely every month. You have to snatch these up quick!
I also got this super cute black dress (with aline type skirt) and little yellow top from my drawing number one. The owner, Marie-Claire is awesome, and this ensemble arrived sweetly packaged and fits like a glove.

kai made us a headboard

Kai has been toiling over this headboard the last month or so on the weekends. It is nearly complete, (he is going to add some sort of wood element to cover up the lamp cords).
It is beautiful and shiny and made from reclaimed barn flooring, I believe. We estimate it weighs between two and three hundred pounds. I couldn't even lift a corner, and Kai dragged it in somehow harnessed over his shoulder...without injury! Please excuse the crappy sheets, it's laundry day.
